Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - 18/03/2020 20:30

I'm very sad to say that all training will cease from tonight. We have kept sessions going for as long as we possibly can, but we have reached the point where we feel that it is in everyone's interest that we now stop.

Over the coming days the committee will be discussing ongoing costs and reviewing fees during the period that we are closed.

Head Coach Becki McGuire now has the unenviable task of reviewing the seasons swimming programmes for each squad in order to minimise the impact of closure.

I would like to thank all of our members for their continued support during these unpredictable times

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - 12/03/2020 13:30

Swim England has issued the following advice regarding novel coronavirus (COVID-19) 10/03/20

The health and wellbeing of anyone who takes part in any aquatic activity is of paramount importance to everyone at Swim England.

Swim England is currently following the latest guidance from the Government and Public Health England and is advising its members, clubs, learn to swim providers and volunteers to do the same.

At this time, Swim England is continuing to plan for events as normal.

However, the national governing body will be following the latest information and assessing risk as appropriate. Specific guidance regarding forthcoming Swim England events will be issued as necessary to those who are due to attend.

Due to the ongoing spread of novel coronavirus, there have been a number of calls to Swim England about whether it is safe to still go swimming.

The Pool Water Treatment and Advisory Group (PWTAG) has been in contact with Public Health England regarding novel coronavirus.

A spokesperson for PWTAG said: “Public health opinion is that it is generally safe to go swimming at this time.

“Water and the chlorine within swimming pools will help to kill the virus.

“However, visitors to swimming pools are reminded to shower before using the pool, to shower on leaving the pool and to follow the necessary hygiene precautions when visiting public places to help reduce the risk of infection.”

These include washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze and do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean.

Most importantly, if you feel unwell, please avoid using the pool.

This announcement is not intended to panic anyone and Swim England is sharing the above information to ensure all possible precautions are taken.

Please can all swimmers/parents be considerate when using showers/changing rooms so that everyone can use the facilities that are available with the minimum of fuss.

If any of our members have or think they have the virus,it would be appreciated if you could inform us to assist us in our continued risk assessment.  This should not replace seeking advice from NHS 111.

Please advise

I am in regular contact with Active Northumberland regarding any change in risk. At present there are no reported incidents in any of their centre's and it is business as usual.

Thank You,
Lesley Kennedy (Chair) Email Chair

Swim England have advised all swimming clubs to carry out a risk assessment in relation to the Coronavirus.

This is not an indication that the risk has changed.

I'm sure most of our members have had advice from school or places of work, but to reiterate:

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze (obviously our swimmers can't do this when they are in the pool so please try and direct your cough or sneeze away from others)
  • Put used tissues in the bin immediately
  • Wash your hands with soap and water often – use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • Try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell

  • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Lions Swim 2020

This years Morpeth Lions Swimathon will be help on Saturday 7th March at Morpeth Riverside. This is a sponsored swim to help raise important funds for our club, Morpeth ASC.

Swimmers swim in teams and the aim is to swim as many lengths possible within the 55 minuet time slot.

Lots of local organisations take part but as a swimming club we tend to do quite well over all!

We have 4 lanes booked at 1pm and we are looking for three teams and one Coaches team of around 4 - 8 swimmers. We are looking for swimmers of any age in the club from any of our squads. If you are an aquatic helper, we are looking for help to support swimmers on the day and count laps.

If you are interested in taking part or helping the day please see Lindsey Henderson, there will also be a sign up sheet on the notice board.

MASC Pasyments

I appreciate it can be tricky for swimming parents to keep on top of payments to Morpeth ASC and some of you still have club credit too (from gala rejections or overpayments).

Here's an offer:

If you're ever unsure how much you owe, if you still have credit, if you have already paid but can't remember, don't hesitate to send me an email to check. It's easy for me to find out, usually same day.

And it's easier all around if you then go on pay the correct amount with credit redeemed (if applicable).

Kind regards & happy swimming,
Andreas Leja (Treasurer) Email Head Coach
